Tickets are on sale now for Star for a Night, the annual talent showcase for young people, which is run by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and takes place at the Harlequin Theatre on 7 and 8 April.
Star for a Night is a variety show featuring dance and musical theatre, with performances from 85 young people aged 11 to 18. Whether your hero is Bowie or you dream of being just like Taylor Swift, this year's show promises to keep you entertained.
"We have been running Star for a Night for 17 years. It gives our local young people access to free professional tuition in singing, dancing and acting. It culminates in two evening shows, open to the public," explains Cllr Ros Mill, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Wellbeing at Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.
The 85 young people performing this year took part in open auditions in February and, since then, have been rehearsing in preparation for the final shows which are open to the public and take place soon. Cllr Mill continues: "I am so proud of this year's young performers. They have worked incredibly hard to put on a polished and professional show. If you love music and dance and haven't bought tickets yet, I would urge you to book yours soon. Star for a Night is a great evening out for all the family."
The theme for this year's show is 'wishes and dreams'. Featured songs include Taylor Swift's 'I Wish You Would,' David Bowie's 'We Could Be Heroes,’ Jessie J's 'Hero' plus well known favourites such as 'Daydream Believer' and 'Wishin' On A Star.'
Performances take place on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 April from 7.30pm. Tickets are just £10/ £8 concessions, available from the Harlequin Theatre box office and website.
Star for a Night is funded by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and local councillors and supported by Urban Play and So You Wanna Be. By taking part in Star for a Night, young people have the chance to win a one year scholarship to So You Wanna Be Theatre School or to Urban Play street dance classes.
You can buy tickets direct from the Harelquin Theatre box office.
