The call is out for 11 to 18 year olds with a passion for dance, singing or drama to register for the Star for a Night open casting event on Sunday 27 January at the Harlequin Theatre.
Star for a Night is the free young people’s performing arts show organised by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council. It's a big show packed with young people who love singing, dancing and drama. The Council is looking for as many 11 to 18 year olds as it can to take part. This year young established bands in the same age group are also invited to apply.
After the casting event, participants will take part in rehearsals over 10 weeks with free coaching from local dance and performing arts schools. The final shows are on 10 and 11 April.
Register today
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s Executive Member for Leisure and Wellbeing, Cllr Rod Ashford says: "All young people who come to the casting and are able to commit to the rehearsals will perform in the final shows." Last year around 100 young people participated in the final performances on stage at the Harlequin.
Young people who live or go to school in the borough of Reigate & Banstead are eligible to take part in Star for a Night. Participants and their parents need to register in advance by filling in a short form on the Star for a Night webpage.
Anniversary show
Cllr Ashford adds: “2019 is a very special year: it's our 20th anniversary show. Star for a Night gives our young people the opportunity to improve their performance skills with free coaching from experts. Taking part in the final show on stage at the Harlequin Theatre is an unforgettable experience. If you want to know what it's like to be in Star for a Night, check out our short video on our website or on social media."
Everyone in the show will have the chance to win one of six scholarships to local performing arts schools. Urban Play, Orbit Shed and the Zapphire School of Dance will be providing tuition throughout the rehearsals and each has offered two scholarships in dance, drama and singing.
