See World War artefacts from Surrey Infantry Museum, dig out your own family heirlooms to find out more from museum experts or get help to start researching your family history at this free event.
'Discover World War I with Reigate & Banstead' is a fascinating, interactive family event as part of Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s First World War centenary commemorations taking place at the Harlequin Theatre on Saturday 15 October 2016 from 2-4pm.
Vintage tea, face painting and more
There will be free face painting, entertainment from Stompers Jazz Band, children’s activities and vintage afternoon tea and cakes on sale at the Harlequin café.
Visitors can learn more about the important role the borough and its residents played in the First World War through displays and activities. Military historian Ian Chatfield from Surrey Infantry Museum will also be giving a talk about the Battle of the Somme.
Surrey Family History Centre will be on hand to help get you started with researching your family tree and to help you discover what part your family may have played in the Great War.
Something for all ages
The Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Cllr David Powell, who will be at the event, says: "This will be a thoroughly fascinating event with something for all ages. We're very lucky to have Ian Chatfield from Surrey Infantry Museum bringing along examples of equipment from World War I from the museum’s collection and to talk about Life at the Somme. If you're interested in local or military history or just want to find out more about the part your family may have played in the First World War, come along."
