About

Redhill Memorial Park is held by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council (RBBC) as the sole corporate trustee of a charitable trust known as Memorial Sports Ground. This charity was set up in 1922 when the land was originally vested in it.

In most cases, and so long as the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 are complied with, trustees can lease charity land without needing to obtain a distinct authority from the Charity Commission.

Here, however, authority granted direct from the Charity Commission is required due to the charitable trust’s governing documents.

The consultation

The Redhill Memorial Sports Ground Consultation seeks the public’s views on our application to the Charity Commission to release the Memorial Park pavilion café and seating area from charitable restrictions. This will allow RBBC to grant a formal lease to the selected café operator.

All results will be submitted to the Charities Commission for their review as part of the application process.
