Complaints about atmospheric pollution
This page explains how we deal with complaints about atmospheric (air) pollution, including smoke, fumes, gases and smells.
Environmental Health Services has power to deal with the following categories of complaint:
- smoke from premises that causes a statutory nuisance.
- emission of dark smoke from chimneys or as a result of industrial or trade burning.
- fumes and gases from private dwellings that causes a statutory nuisance.
- dust steam or smell arising from industrial, trade or business premises that causes a statutory nuisance.
