Background
Following a consultation in 2019 about making further highway and parking improvements in the Preston area, Surrey County Council's (SCC) Reigate & Banstead Local Committee approved plans for Chetwode Road and Homefield Gardens. Further details in the report to the Local Committee.
Following a period of detailed design, during which the plans were refined, and a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Surrey County Council and Reigate & Banstead Borough Council carried out these improvements during autumn and winter 2020.
The works implemented in Chetwode Road included:
- creation of four new parking lay-bys to improve parking for residents
- resurfacing most pavements
- new pedestrian crossing dropped kerbs
- renewal of worn out sections of road, particularly at the junction of Chetwode Road with Marbles Way
- an upgrade of both bus stops to include new shelters, electronic displays of bus wait times, and step free passenger access to buses.
Proposals for Homefield Gardens involve a new parking lay-by.
The above works were preceded by bus stop upgrade works in Merland Rise at the northbound stop near Headley Drive.
