Aims
-
to provide a range of open spaces and facilities to cater for the recreational and leisure needs of local people.
What we promised
- recreational facilities to accommodate outdoor sports pitches
- a Riverside Green Chain, around the whole town, that safeguards the riverine environment and provides opportunities for both formal and informal recreation
- three new allotment sites
- a variety of play areas within the new neighbourhoods for children and young people.
Progress to date
- completed all of the new play spaces in The Acres
- laying out a new allotment site in The Acres, which has now been transferred to Horley Town Council
- the layout of the Riverside Green Chain around The Acres, and transferred ownership of this open space to Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.
- four new play areas in Westvale Park and transferred the ownership of these play spaces to Reigate & Banstead Borough Council
- nearly completed phase one of the Riverside Green Chain around Westvale Park.
- a planning application (reference 04/02120/OUT) for the construction of two allotment sites, associated storage, toilet facilities, access road and parking at Westvale Park is currently being determined by the Council. The allotments, once built, will be transferred to Horley Town Council to manage.
- commissioned a Playing Pitch, Outdoor and Indoor Sports and Recreation Facilities Study (PPSRF study), to identify the current and future balance between supply and demand for sport and physical activity. This will inform future investment decisions and sites allocation. This study is to be completed in the Summer 2022.
Future delivery
- complete the layout of the Riverside Green Chain around Westvale Park
- provide new recreational facilities to accommodate outdoor sports pitches in the Horley area
- construct a further thirteen new play areas in Westvale Park
- layout and construct two new allotment sites in Westvale Park
