Aims

to provide a range of community facilities to help promote a healthy and vibrant community
What we promised
- a new leisure centre to replace the old Horley Anderson
- a specialist new youth centre for young people
- a new library
- improved day care facilities for the over 55s
- on site facilities within the two new neighbourhoods, including community halls and local shops and sites for a medical centre, a place of worship and a pub/restaurant.
Progress to date
- built and opened Horley Leisure Centre in January 2012,following a £9 million investment, which features a 25 metre six-lane swimming pool, a teaching pool, fitness gym with 45 exercise stations, a four-court multi-use sports hall and an exercise and dance studio.
- redeveloped the old fire station in Albert Road as Horley young people and family centre with a £1.2 million investment in 2010. It is managed by the YMCA.
- built and completed commercial units in The Acres neighbourhood centre in April 2021, which are now occupied by a supermarket, an IT company, and a café.
- converted Tanyard Barn in The Acres into a new community centre, which opened in September 2017 as both a pre-school (term time) and as a hireable community centre (outside of term time). Horley Community Pre-school website.
- a new Horley Library in Russell Square, in Horley town centre opened in May 2019 and is run by Surrey County Council.
Future delivery
- provision of enhanced facilities Horley Community Centre, Albert Road, Horley
- construction of a neighbourhood hall at Westvale Park
- construction of new shops and commercial facilities at Westvale Park
- provision of a medical centre, pub/restaurant, employment space and a place of worship at Westvale Park, depending on demand.
