3. Transport

Aims

  • to reduce the need to travel and promote sustainable alternatives to the car
  • to ease congestion and limit any impact of new development on existing roads 

What we promised

  • two new bus routes linking the new neighbourhoods to the town centre and beyond 
  • public transport information such as Real Time Passenger Information and boards
  • improved facilities at Horley Train Station and at bus stops
  • new pedestrian and cycle routes around the town
  • new link roads to serve the new neighbourhoods
  • improvements to existing junctions
  • traffic calming on existing residential roads around the new neighbourhoods
  • refurbishment of the subway, High Street, Horley                 

Progress to date

  • a new link road and junction connecting The Acres (the North East Sector development) to the A23, completed in 2014 
  • a new link road and junction connecting Westvale Park (the North West Sector development) to the A217, built in 2015
  • expansion of the Fastway 20 service into The Acres (the North East Sector) in 2018
  • two new bus services connecting Westvale Park to Horley Town Centre, Gatwick, Redhill, and Reigate (422 and 424) from 2018
  • a new link road and junction connecting Westvale Park (the North West Sector) to the A23, built in 2021
  • a new junction across Meath Green Lane connecting the first phase of Westvale Park to the second phase, along Hoadley Road, completed in 2022
  • Traffic Regulation Order (D334) secured in 2021 to implement traffic calming measures along Meath Green Lane, once Meath Green Lane Junction opens. 

Future delivery

  • further expansion of Real Time Passenger Information
  • provision of new cycle and pedestrian routes around the town, connecting The Acres and Westvale Par
  • traffic calming on existing residential roads around the new neighbourhoods
  • refurbishment works to Horley subway
  • improvements at Three Arch Road and Woodhatch junctions to reduce congestion.
