Surrey County Council together with Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, the contractor Atkins and Sustrans have developed a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for the borough. This document identifies a number of routes to be delivered over the next 10 years. These will supplement or update parts of the current network to support health and well-being by encouraging more cycling and walking in the borough.
The project has been developed in accordance with the latest Department for Transport guidance and in collaboration with local communities, special interest groups, officers from both councils and elected representatives. It has been co-endorsed by the Cabinet Member for Transport, Infrastructure and the Economy at Surrey County Council – Councillor Matt Furniss and the Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy and Place Delivery at Reigate & Banstead Borough Council - Councillor Richard Biggs in March 2022.
Having a published up-to-date LCWIP will be used to inform infrastructure plans and support future funding bids to government and other sources. This will enable work to progress on each scheme’s detailed design in collaboration with local communities and then deliver the improvements.
