The cemetery comprises of 18 sections with burial options for traditional graves, lawn graves, cremated remains and a children’s section. You are also able to select a specific plot for immediate or future interments, subject to availability and your requirements.
Traditional graves
Traditional graves cover the entire plot and allow for the planting of flowers and shrubs depending on the type of memorial. You can erect kerbstones or enclosures the full length and width of the grave space.
Cremated remains as well as coffins may be interred in this type of grave.
Lawn graves
Graves on lawn sections are only allowed to use the first three feet from the back of the headstone in which to plant bedding or shrubs. The remainder of the grave is maintained as lawn and mown at the Council’s expense.
Cremated remains as well as coffins may be interred in this type of grave.
Child graves
There is a dedicated children’s section at Redstone Cemetery. There traditional graves are half the size of a normal grave space and are only for the interment of children.
Natural burial area
The Natural Burial Area was introduced in 2010 to increase the choice of burial options at Redstone Cemetery. A selection of trees are planted within the section that will offer year round interest together with a variety of wildflowers to attract wildlife. Unlike other sections of the cemetery the grass will not be mown during the summer months.
- In contrast to the other sections of the cemetery there are no headstones, instead a simple oak plaque to mark the grave with the name of the deceased.
- Floral tributes from the funeral are allowed on the grave however once these have been removed only the wooden plaque and wildflowers will be permitted.
- It is possible to have more than one burial in each grave, but as the graves will be used in sequence it is not possible to purchase them in advance.
- For interment in our natural burial area we encourage and welcome the use of environmentally friendly coffins and natural materials.
Burial rights
Burial rights to all graves at Redstone Cemetery are sold for a period of 50 years. It is possible to extend the lease period to 100 years.
Embalming
In line with the Code of Conduct for members of The Association of Natural Burial Grounds we will only accept embalmed bodies for burial in exceptional circumstances such as repatriation. In all other cases no embalming of the body is allowed.
