1. How your Council Tax helps to fund Reigate & Banstead’s services

For all the services Reigate & Banstead Borough Council provides, a typical band D household will pay £264.87 this tax year. That’s £5 a week - and about 14 pence more than last year. While we collect your Council Tax, just 11 pence in each pound comes to us to help deliver over 50 services to more than 156,000 residents and 11,500 businesses.

Each year when setting our budget, we face new challenges and have to make difficult decisions. Like many councils, we’ve not received core funding from the Government towards our services since 2017. However, our strong financial management means we have once again been able to set a balanced budget for the year ahead, while protecting key services and providing additional support to communities who need it most. We are also pleased to extend our Council Tax Support Scheme for residents facing financial hardship.

We will continue to invest in improvements to our town centres, parks and play areas, as well as increase our supply of emergency and temporary housing for those in greatest housing need. We will also continue to maintain our buildings and invest in our vehicle fleet, and reduce their carbon emissions.

We will continue to work hard to deliver our services and our corporate plan priorities to benefit everyone who lives in or does business in our borough, acknowledging that local government reorganisation will have implications on the way services are provided in future years.

Councillor Richard Biggs, Leader, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council
