We were able to secure non-recurrent funding for two years from our partners at East Surrey Place to help develop the Growing Health Together approach to health creation with primary care colleagues. This funding has allowed all our East Surrey Place CDWs (all our CDWs except Maria in Preston) to dedicate¼ of their working week specifically to health creation projects. Our CDWs have established links with GPs and have already supported delivery of resident led projects including, green space improvements on the Cromwell Estate, an Asian women’s wellbeing group and the stay and play group referenced above.

In the north of the Borough, we have worked with Surrey Downs colleagues to fund Maria to work one day a week supporting the COVID vaccine roll out and more recently to look at mental and emotional wellbeing in the community. We have also worked closely with colleagues from Banstead PCN and Surrey Downs Place on projects related to COVID and mental wellbeing.

We have worked with colleagues across the local Health System – local GPs and PCNs, East Surrey and Surrey Downs Places, First Community Health and Care, Surrey Heartlands, Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Surrey and Borders NHS Trust and Public Health at SCC on a range of projects including co-facilitating the Surrey Heartlands Citizen Engagement Group. This work has increased significantly over the last year.

We have worked closely with C2, an organisation with significant experience in health creation to help colleagues and residents understand this approach. Tracey and Charlie undertook an ‘immersion’ course with C2 and subsequently organised an event to share learning and introduce people to an online training resource (please contact tracey.agnew@reigate-banstead.gov.uk if you would like to access the training).
