Council officers
We employ over 460 full-time equivalent staff members (officers) who give advice, implement decisions and manage the day-to-day delivery of our services.
The most senior officers form the Management Team, led by the Managing Director.
Council officers write the reports which inform the decisions made by councillors in committee or at executive meetings.
Some officers have a specific duty to ensure that the council acts within the law and uses its resources wisely.
Codes of conduct govern the conduct of officers and the relationship between officers and councillors.
Sometimes we hire contractors to carry out our duties, such as the running of the leisure centres in the borough.
