The government’s support with living costs
Find out what support is available with the cost of living - including bills, housing and health in England.
Winter fuel payments
Only those pensioners who receive Pension Credit will be eligible for the Government's annual Winter Fuel Payment of up to £300. To receive this payment, eligible residents must apply for Pension Credit before 21 December 2024.
Cold weather payments
If you're getting certain benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest, you may be able to get a Cold Weather Payment if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, 0OC or below over seven consecutive days. This year's scheme will start on 1 November 2024. Cold Weather Payments are different to Winter Fuel Payments.

Reducing energy bills - grants for energy efficiency improvements
Improving the energy efficiency of your home will keep you warmer and save you money by reducing the amount of energy you use. There are grants available to help and organisations that can advise you.

Online Energy Advice Tool
Surrey County Council's new online tool will ask you a series of short questions before offering you tailored information on grants, support and advice, and non-financial help on a range of topics.
Energy saving advice
These organisations provide free advice and information about ways to save energy and reduce the amount your bills.
- Action Surrey provides advice on how to reduce your energy use, including information about grants available, such as the Sustainable Warmth grant.
- Warmth Matters: Surrey Community Action's Warmth Matters can provide support and practical advice to help you stay warm, stay health and save money.
- The Energy Savings Trust can help you make your home more energy efficient, reduce your carbon emissions and lower your energy bills.
